Ps3 Yellow Light Fix (Do It Yourself?)
The play station 3 yellow light is similar to the three rings on Microsoft’s XBOX360. They symbolize doom and hopelessness that the machine is worthless. Typically when the play station turns on for you to play games the light is green and this means that all is well and you can enjoy yourself while you shoot other people in modern warfare or whatever other game you play. However, unfortunately for many people, they don’t get this and instead that green turns yellow.
A few basic steps need to be checked before you freak out too much about the yellow light appearing on your system. The very first thing you need to do is to check and make sure that all the cables are securely plugged into the system. You can try unplugging them and then plugging them all back in again to ensure that they are secure. Restart the play station after you are absolutely certain that everything is plugged in tight and in the correct spots.
Another thing that you could check is your hard drive on the system. Sometimes the problem is remedied by taking the hard drive out completely and then placing it back in the system. It is a long shot but it doesn’t hurt to try some basic trouble shooting steps first.
If you’re at this step then you have two different options. The first is to contact Sony and have them fix the problem for you. This seems like the easiest option because you are exempt from having to do any of the work yourself but there are some definite drawbacks. First, if you are not covered under a warranty you will have to pay $150 in order for the problem to be fixed which isn’t exactly the change that you would find in your couch under the cushions. Sony also takes quite some time to fix systems that are returned to them and in most cases they actually just ship a refurbished system back to you which could very well have the same problem down the line because they didn’t fix the original problem anyways. If you choose this route expect to be without your console for about 6 weeks.
Another option that many people have is to try to fix the problem on their own using the valuable information that is available on the internet. Be aware though that if you do open the system up to try to fix anything the warranty with Sony is voided. If you are covered, definitely send the device in and let them service it instead of putting yourself through the hassle.
Many play station 3 repair guides are available on the internet which details exactly how to fix the yellow light. The best thing about this is that you do all the work yourself so you know it is done right and have the satisfaction of fixing it yourself. You also won’t have to wait for the system to be sent back to you in the mail. A good repair guide will provide steps and pictures to guide you through the process.
